After graduating in May 2018, I have definitely grown into a nurse that I want to be and I am continuing to grow. I found my voice as a leader on the Multi-Trauma Unit at Swedish Medical Center and I am excited to start studying for my TCRN, Trauma Certified Registered Nurse! I used to be very shy and I have found my voice on the floor with both my coworkers and my for my patients. I am more comfortable with delegating tasks and being there for my team! Being a Charge Nurse has boosted my confidence in the knowledge that I have. I couldn’t be more grateful for the scholarship and how it helped me be stress free throughout school while trying to get the fundamentals of nursing done! I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my Regis Family!

For those of you who don’t know, my name is Alexa Grygorcewicz, and I was the recipient of the TJ Myrick Scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year. This past December, I completed my first semester of nursing school at Regis University. Although I faced many challenges, my love for this profession has only grown.
This past semester was filled with moments of happiness, as well as stress. The first eight weeks of nursing school prepared me to work in a clinical setting. Therefore, I was pushed to learn as much as I could, as fast as I could. During this time, I found it difficult to balance school, work, and my social life. However, this challenge gave me the opportunity to strengthen my time management skills and learn the importance of self-care. During the second half of the semester, I spent less time in the classroom and more time in the hospital. Although nerve-racking, I felt prepared to provide safe, high-quality patient care. As I completed my clinical hours, I slowly began to realize the real reason as to why I wanted to become a nurse. I want to become a nurse because I believe that it is my job to advocate for those who are unable to advocate for themselves. In addition, I also believe that my role as a patient advocate includes providing equal care and showing kindness to all patients. With that being said, I am excited for what the future holds. I am eternally grateful for the Myrick family, as they have made my dream of becoming a nurse a reality. I would also like to thank my patients, as they have made me the person I am today. My time at Regis is hurling to an end! I have about seven weeks until I am officially a Regis Alumni with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing! I wish I could send you all a graduation announcement for I couldn’t do it without your support, but not to worry, I’ll see you all at the golf tournament in June! By that time, I will be well on my way to being a registered nurse (is it just me, or is that crazy to think about?). I am just now starting to send in my application to hospitals, so all ten fingers and toes crossed! Still not positive where I want to end up, I just want to start giving care.
Along the lines of me graduating, I have some fun news! Throughout my time at Regis and in the nursing program, I have found myself toe to toe with challenges and moving moments. Through these moments and self-reflection, I have further discovered my love for nursing and newly my love for God. Since this discovery, I found His Healing Hands. This organization gives opportunities to those who feel inclined to go help heal His people in countries where it is needed, demonstrate His love through treatment, and spread His Word. I am excited to announce that I will be participating in the Philippines Mission Trip from May 21-30, 2020! This is a wonderful opportunity and I can tell that this will change me in all the right places. My heart can barely contain how much love I am ready to give the Filipino people. I know this is just the tip of the iceberg for me and what I am going to do for all of His people. If you feel inclined to support me and those accompanying me on this trip, below is how you can donate. This trip is projected to cost $2500, but thoughts and prayers are also appreciated as the date approaches for our departure. I appreciate you all for taking the time to read this and donate if led to do so! I will see you all after I return, just in time for the golf tournament! Two years ago, I would not have had the confidence to something like this mission trip. Your support combined with the Myrick’s has given me the confidence to go into this world with the attitude that I can do anything I set my mind to. You can bet that I am going to carry that with me for the rest of my life and give my patience that same confidence. So excited for June to come! I hope to see the same faces from last year and so many more! Remember: all ten fingers and toes crossed. How you can donate: Go to www.hishealinghands.com/philippines2020.
